Joseph Canaan’s life story begins in Sudan, Africa. As a Catholic boy of Lebanese heritage, Joseph grew up in a largely Islamic country, learning to live in true harmony with his Muslim brothers and sisters. In the process, he gained a deep respect for all faiths and ways of life, while also strengthening his devotion to a Catholic faith that carried him through many dangerous situations recounted in his memoir. So deep was this devotion that he once considered becoming a Catholic priest, studying as a seminarian in Rome, Italy.

 

In his later years, Joseph moved to Greece to be with his sister. He passed away there on December 1, 2020, leaving behind a legacy of faith, courage, and storytelling that continues to inspire.
